Overview

The Smith back shrug is an exercise targeting the traps, which are the muscles located at the back of the neck and shoulders. The exercise is performed by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and your back against a Smith machine. You then grasp the bar with an overhand grip and shrug your shoulders up as high as you can, hold for a second, and then lower your shoulders back to the starting position. The Smith back shrug can be performed for multiple sets of 8-12 repetitions.
