Overview

The Smith shrug is an exercise targeting the trapezius muscles, or traps. It is performed by standing with your back to a Smith machine and grasping the bar with an overhand grip, shoulder-width apart. With your feet shoulder-width apart, hinge at your hips and lower your torso until your upper arms are parallel to the floor. Keeping your core engaged, shrug your shoulders up as high as you can, then slowly lower them back down. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
